Panzer EM Visor Hat

I can't remember ever seeing crown piping on a visor hat ever attached this way. Thought it might have been upgraded.

The top and the middle piping is overlapped.

The bottom piping is not.

Good point Glenn. I would say an Original cap with added/updraded/repaired piping.

The different piping could be a repair, maybe do to damaged piping, because of the heavy use, in reference to the looks of the sweatband.

Ron, It looks like you can see threads holding the piping on just to the top left of the cockade and along that middle piping.

I have seen a couple of examples done in this fashion, one had overlapping piping on the top, middle and bottom.

I had two of these awhile back. Both were Panzer piped in overlapping
rayon, just like this. One was an officer upgrade. An oldtimer I showed them to said that they were made for the Afrika Korps, but I never heard that story again. I sold them together, and I must admit I was always a bit suspicious of them, although they seemed totally legit. I've also seen at least one other just like it for sale on a website since. Maybe the mystery can be solved here.

The cap is legit. The piping will give me (and others) pause just because it is so unusual to see. The reason people get the shakes when they see the overlapped piping is that overlapped piping was a hallmark of a great many ofthe "Latvian Specials" that have been popping up on eBay and elsewhere for the past ten years or so.

I had one which had shaved down white piping under. Definatly a cheap way of changing branch for the economic soldier. 100% original.
