Nice Original Jager M43

Hi Matt, thanks for posting the hat. I own a few M43 hats so I am somewhat familiar with them but there are plenty others on this forum more knowledgeable than I.

Here are my thoughts on the hat:
Likes:
- I like the wool. Seems to be original period wool
- Insignia; it seems to be an original mid war trap

Dislikes:
- Overall construction. Not sure what the hat is supposed to be. It is not a Bergmutze due to longer bill and other features. There were single button M43 hats, but I am not familiar with them due to them being pretty scarce. Consensus on a previous thread is that most were field made. This one is not field made since it has an ink stamped size.

- The insignia sewing. Sewn right thru the eagle's head. Looks to be machine sewn except on the right side which has unusual stitching from the pictures.
- The lining. Not like any I have seen in an original M43 hat. Appears to be blanket material. Most have the early cotton twill, or the snythetic silk/rayon later.

I'm not totally condemning the hat, just want to hear opinions on it.

I like the look of the hat but can't attest to its originality. I personally believe there were production M43s judging from the number of pictures I've seen.WR jim

Relic Hunter has a M43 for sale that has the same liner. The complete hat was made in italy. I'm personally not familiar with M43s manufactured in Italy but they've been discussed here before.

Interesting, thanks for pointing out those Italian made hats. The lining on this one does seem similar to those. However the outside material does not seem the same. Not sure what to make of this hat. Any other input?

IMO the linings in those caps are not the same. The Italian one is textbook and just like one I have owned. Rough material to the touch, not smooth like the other.
