Post #17 just shows normal wear, you can see where the thread has snapped or worn through.
The only thing i find odd is the black sweat band - Never seen one before....

Well I can say that the Jon Seltz markings are a bit odd to find on a Pekuro cap. I thought it could have been the markings from the company that made the sweatband but these are a cap makers marks. There is some real odd stitching in post #10. In post #21 the lining stitching is all over the place and not very neatly done. In post #23 you can see holes in the lining where other stitching once was and in all the shots the trademark Pekuro ribbing looks to have been stretched. Those are my observations.

Steve, sweatband colour is not black but dark grey.
Kreager, I've never seen VI mark on Peküro like you said it. Is it really a mark use by this maker on his cap? What is but of this marking?
Nick, it is difficult to photograph stiffener under liner without cut thread.
But there is a stiffener which is not so 'hard' than other I have observed. It is more pliable or supple. I can't say in what material he was done because I don't arrive to see it. He has approximatively 3,5 cm wide when I touch it across doeskin. Nick, can you tell me more concerning Jon Seltz? Is he maker cap?
So, can you give me approximate value of the cap in this condition?
And, is someone has two metal eagles to sell for NCO Cap please?

Stonemint might be able to add to this regarding Pekuro peak stiffeners since he collects Pekuro’s but here is what I have seen in them. On Pekuro’s the peak stiffeners are similar to the Schellenberg’s. They are a metal strip wrapped in hardened white cloth. Now I have seen them with a wicker backing behind them and without. A Pekuro should not be soft unless someone removed the stiffener.

SPQR--sorry for the delay on this--I somehow overlooked this thread (which, in a way is a good thing--it means a lot of people are posting!).
It is an "early-war" Pekuro, but like a 55 year-old Scottsdale woman, she's had a "lot of work" done (as we say around here!).
What is odd is the stitching that is visible in foto #10 that is visible just above the piping--Nick and I are "stitch nazi's", and while this may be just loose (or sloppy) stitching, it is a red flag for me.
The second thing I do not like is the way the piping is joined ("butted") in foto #11--it is real sloppy, and is re-done.
While your hat has the correct "ribbing", the ribs are stretched flat. Further, there are extra (empty) holes in the lining. This liner was re-stitched.
The "VI" on the visor and in red greasepencil is correct--they are just size indicators to the cap maker.
It is hard to tell from the fotos whether the visor was re-stitched, but it is obviously loose. Further, (and I mock this theory all the time), but the outside is pristine, while the inside reflects heavy wear.
SPQR, there are just too many things that bother me about the hat--whether these "repairs" are wartime or post-1945 we probably will never know. My advice is to try and return it, or get a discount off the price--sorry.NEC SOLI CEDIT
