    Feldgergarme cap at SOS

I bought this feldgendarme (orange piping) cap at the SOS. I think it is a beauty. The bottom piping behind the cord show some heavy wear, the inside is also heavily worn with a newspaper on the inside of the cap band dated aug 1943. I showed it around at the show and everybody gave it the thumbs up. My only question is with regard to the roundel, the red piece is painted. It is the first time I have seen this. It might be possible that the insignia has been replaced at some stage although I can find no trace of this on the inside or outside of the cap. Jacques

Hi Jacques, it was great meeting you at the SOS! So this is the baby you told me about. Nothing wrong with this one. I would not worry about the cockade. I have never seen painted either but it does not mean it was not done. Also the felt could have came out and a collector painted it. No big deal either way. This is a nice “been there” cap. She definitely seen use and did not sit on the sidelines in a closet.

How did the rest of your trip to the US go?

Nick, the show was great, which I had more money however. The day after I met you, on my way to the airport, I picked up a first version e-boat badge from Bob Hritz. I must say the highlight of the show was meeting some forum members and I got this cap as a bargain. I must say the US (mid atlantic) is quite an impressive place, nice people as well. Jacques.

Jacques--Great Score! This proves that a hat can still look minty on the outside while being salty on the inside. Plus, its got the Pekuro sweatband--always my fave

Neat cap, Jacques! There's nothing wrong with a painted bullseye. The first time I saw one, I was taken aback as well, but I've seen many since.

On occasion, you'll even see red cardboard in the cockade.

That's exactly right. I believe that's what Jacques is refering to.

Stonemint and Brian, thank you for the the feedback. I have again learned something new on the forum. I got the cap for $600 which I thought was a really good price. Jacques
