The DRGM on the leather sweatband indicates that the cap was either made by August Schellenberg, or the maker used Schellenberg's patent. Can't help you with the strange stamp, though.

No, it looks like FS and is probably the owner's initials. Abbriviation for August Schellenberg would normally be A. Sch.

How do we know the patent was indeed Schellenberg's?

I do believe his patent is mentioned/listed in Wilkins book. I don’t even need the sweatband to tell you this one is a Schellenberg. Look at the pasteboard and peak stiffener. Most of the early Schellenberg’s use this style.

                    Carlo--100% text-book

Nick--I think a thread on the evolution of Schellenberg's is long overdue

Hi Nick it's very difficult to recognize the name if you don't know it ,but I tried.
I write it in the post like you see in the celluloid shield:
                      ??FCT??
                      esgesc.?tt
                      ??????????????
                      ALLENSTEIN-OSF PR.
                      ???????????????????????
I don't know if you are able to understand the factory ,I think only known the existence of a similar name can help.
Thanks for the compliment, but I still have some more arrows in my bow
                      Ciao

Hi Nick, did you understood wiche factory could be?
About the SF stamp,I dont think is the name becaue the name is written in the red line and the the unit again with pen in yellow line ,and I don't think a NCO could have a family or initial stamp.
