SS Panzer Officer's Overseas Cap

I bought this at the SOS for the insignia. I have no idea if the cap is original. The wool is what I call 'boiled wool' and is thicker than I usually see on black headgear.

That's a bogus maker stamp, been around for at least 10 years. Manion's was a fave dumping ground for overseas caps marked like this.

Yes, Gene, but the bogus maker stamps are incorrectly copied from originals. Just look at the differences in letter font from the fake Jim Pool was kind enough to post, for comparison. This maker certainly did make caps during the Third Reich. A blanket statement like yours is incorrect. The cap has to stand up on it's own merits, or lack thereof.

I do not have access to a camera that will do good, close-up, photography. I will post more when I return to the desert.

I'd like to see an original stamp by that maker, if that maker ever existed in the first place (I believe this is a fantasy maker stamp)

I believe I ve seen the stamp..its different then this style luckily..it was on a coastal artillery overseas...Billbert

Hi Bob,

I almost purchased that same cap a while back. Nice original insignia but the cap is as phoney as a three dollar bill.

You might remember a similar infantry officers cap I sent you to look at a few years back - the cap material was different but it has the same loose weave piping, and if you blacklight the core of the piping where it joins it will glow like a christmas tree. Also the piping is secured with only one row of stitching visible on the outside - a no no for me.

The stamp is also a fake as mentioned above.

I've been trying to research the manufacturer which is difficult. Not too much info on them.In Wilkens book he references an original heer M34 Cap which was marked (no picture):

"Franz Ritter
vorm. H.K. Flander (note difference in spelling)
Minden (Westf.)"

So obviousily Flander was taken over by Ritter at some point.

Anyway if anyone has a known original cap with either the Ritter or Flander stamp I would love to see it.WR Jim

The name Flauder is not a fantasy. The company, K. H. Flauder was situated at 19 Heidestrasse in Minden and had Third Reich contracts.
