Not only did I break my vow to only collect visors, having seen Dave Cameron's full-blown Gendarmerie ensemble, the Shako is (unfortunately) just the beginning--(he calls it the "Orange Virus"--I'm told there is no cure):

Stone, I believe the majority of Tschakos were made by Erel, this one is not as nice as the others. But still a rarity.

Nice lid, Gary! For some reason, Lubstein treated the leather part of the lining on these with a laquer-type coating, which does not hold up well with age--even mine (which has never been worn) has some slight flaking. The other thing about these Erel Tschakos is that the front visor undersides lack the cross-hatching.

The interesting thing is that whenever people see my collection, they are instantly drawn to the shako over all my visors. I'll keep a look out for an officer's cockade--they tell me finding a parade horsehair brush is even more difficult to find (and now I want a bandsman's.... ).

Hi Stone, your definatly right about the plume, almost impossible.
When people see mine, there responce is " what are those weird looking things"...try to explain to a non collector, it don't work.
Heres the cracking to the top of mine. Not as mint as the others.
