Combat veteran - WSS Officers M43

Hello everyone, been away for a short while sorting out some sh it in my life but this new arrival from Germany has cheered me up now so I thought I'd take a few snaps to show you.
This one has definitely seen some action. There's also some interesting things about it worth mentioning as well. Firstly, the piping, which is white cord has worn away but I don't think from bugs, just wear and tear. The other thing is that this cap never had a cloth eagle on it, either on the front or side as far as I can see. There are two holes through the cloth on the front for a metal eagle. (eagle on there now is one I had already) This seems to make perfect sense as the ghost outline for the cloth skull is perfectly placed just below the eagle I've put on.
Partial leather sweatband has been on there since day one and is fragile but in remarkably good condition never the less. The white marks on the bill seem to be spots of paint.
Hope you like it, this one really talks to you.
    Cheers
    Ben

I couldn't really capture the outline of the skull, but it's there.

can someone educate me about that fabric? the texture of it looks very odd. is that because of 60 years of wear? the stitching on it looks so bright and new, though.

I know feck all about caps however looking at the the piping and the 'top of the morning to yea' worn spot on the visor looks artifical whereas as Hee La has already pointed out the stiching is brand new...

It may appear that way, but I've seen this exact look on a very well-worn M-43 army tunic I owned years ago. The (probably recycled) wool/rayon fabric had worn right down, exposing the odd thread of a different colour (like the 'pinstripes' on this cap), whereas the thread had faded out to a very light contrasting colour just as with this cap. I like it alot...I'll bet it smells great (the best test anyway)...

                              Cheers,
                              Arran.
