Luftwaffe Officers private purchase tropical field cap

Hi Guys, here is another cap from my collection. This cap shows heavy use and is bleached out to a bone white shade. The silver wire piping is not the conventional round section, but is flat and tape like in construction. This has oxidised to a dark brown with age and has a bit of green "gunk" to it. I have actually very carefully washed this cap as it was quite mouldy with green spots on it due to poor, damp, storage.
I suspect that the cap might be Italian in origin?

Interior. Note this cap does not feature lining like the regular issue Luftwaffe tropical M41 cap, plus it has a leather sweatband.
