            LW field cap, M43? Helferin?

I suspect this is a Luftwaffe female assistant's cap. I don't know if M43 is a correct designation or not.
The cap is lined with blue-grey herringbone cotton and the crown is padded.

              A standard M43 with a bit of a history

As far as I know this has only had two owners. It was given to a friend of mine when he was about 12 years old towards the end of the war. He lived in Austria, and a Luftwaffe Colonel was a friend of the family. The Colonel gave this to him as a gift, 'for his collection'. He kept it and gave it to me in the late 1970s.

It is pretty clean, shows virtually no wear and is, I assume, a fairly standard example. Both insignia are hand stitched, it is lined with a 'silk' material and stamped with '1944 0/0501/0015 56'. The last three numbers of the code are a little hard to read.

Nice one, you're lucky... It's a keeper. Any picture of the interior ?

                    the cap

It's definitely a cap worn by female LW auxiliaries. Very nice. It was designated as einheitsfeldmutze or something to that effect. Jim

                        M43 helferin officer

Probably an M43 cap of a female officer auxiliary assistant in the Luftwaffe.
The cap appears to be an m43 type cap or an einheitsfeldmutze. It has a bullion eagle on the front and no roundel. Silver 'rope' is fixed to the crown.
There are faint marking inside the cap which show the size and some makers details, the best I can decipher is the last line which appear to be a word like Frankenstein.

Here are 4 photos of my Cap which I purchased in 1985. Any information about the Cap - originality etc, would be much appreciated. Kind regards, Colin

The "3" of the RBNr looks faded ? The insignias are reapplied

                                Hi all,

Perhaps a beginners question. I am more into documents then into fieldgear.

But can anyone tell me the difference in use for a Luftwaffe M43 "lightweight" and a normal (thicker) M43 cap? The diffence in material is obvious clear to me, but I want to know why the lightweight cap was made. Was it designed for tropical / summer use only? Or for training units? Or were they handed out to combat troops as often as the thicker woolen ones?

                                Thanks in advance.
