    Edelweiss cloth or metal?

    Hello all,
sorry to ask what most must thing is a supid question, but can someone tell me why on a Gebirgsjager cap there is sometimes a metal Edelweiss badge and sometimes a cloth Edelwiess badge. Is this something to do with their unit or rank?. If someone could just put me right on this i would be grateful.
    Thanks Dave

If we are talking about the m-43 cap then the army used metal edelweiss, and the waffen ss used a cloth badge. This was on the left side of the cap.
Mostly this is correct, but I have seen ss skicaps used by norwegians in the "ss skijeger bataljon" with metal badges.
This is probably due to supply problems of the correct type.
When we are talking about visor caps both army and the ss used a small edelweiss in front of the cap. Between the eagle and the wreath/skull.

Take a look at this picture, and you will see a genuine waffen ss ski cap used by
a norwegian in the waffen ss. It has a metal badge.
    The top picture.
