Questions about a Hermann Meyer Cap

I just received a Hermann Meyer Cap my brother found for me. Stamped in the top is : " Aug. Scellenberg Uniformmutzenfabrik Berlin C2" Spelling might be off a little, the ink is a little smudged. Would this be a correct maker for this hat? The vents are attached with 3 prongs instead of being like rivets, are these replacements?

Do you mean a three pronged "mesh" air vent?

          vents

Yes, it has 3 prong mesh air vents. I don't know if that type of vent was used during manufacture or was a replacement type . The hat appears to be original but of course there's a bunch of very good fakes out there.

That is a correct "manufacturer's variation" for these hats.

I picked up 7 HG hats in the early 80's from a vets sister. Three had the grommets and 4 had the screen vents. All the same maker ,but different ink stampings . I can't remember which, but on one type the insignia was all tucked and sewn, and the other the eagle was triangled and sewn down. I think the wreath was
              sewn block style
He must have got them out of storage somewhere because all were unissued.

450.00 bucks each and I kept one for myself ,but unfortunately traded it off later. why I don't know , I did a lot of dumb stuff back then. I can count several items that I should never have let go.

Here 's a pick of the haul. Everything ,but the HG hats were stored in the garage. The hats were in a suitcase in the attic hense keepining them minty.

Heres a pic but I only see six, not sure if thats one inthe back. This is from an old store my friend Steve and I use to deal out of. It was a part time deal, cheap rent, and across the street from his house. It brought in
some good buys at the time.

John , Yes I have quite a few regrets in my collecting history, but as my mother always told me. "Wish in one hand and spit in the other and see which one gets filled faster". I think she said spit instead of sh!t

I am glad you like them ,and I also wish I had photographed the two variations extensively at the time, because I beleive one wound up in the hands of a Notorious dealer from Pennsylvania who had connections to a Kinsman Austrian Faker.

There were a few nuances that were particular to each variation only.

Of course I'm always suspicious of fakes as is everyone nowadays. I'm pretty sure the one I have is real. Can I email pictures to one of you guys to take a look and see what you think?

Troy, sure but, I'm no expert though and have not handled one of these in 20 years ,but i do have a good memory and remember certain nuances about them.

John H. or one of the hat gurus may be a better choice.
