    SS Overseas Cap???

I recently acquired an overseas cap from the collection of my deceased friend. The cap has no insignia and only has a size mark (58) and "WIEN" stamped on it. WIEN appears to be handwritten, so this may actually be the soldier's name, not the place of its production. As you can see, the cap has nice wear to it and is in excellent condition. My question is, is this an SS overseas cap? If not, what is it? Thanks in advance!

          Barry,

My first impression is coastal artillery; take it outside and see what its true color really is--

I considered that it might be coastal artillery, but the color seems to be more the color of Waffen SS overseas caps that I have seen. I have seen and owned many coastal artillery caps, but this one for some reason doesn't seem to be the same color.

The cap definitely had insignia at one time and has less wear in these areas. There are a couple of remaining bits of thread; however, it's impossible to make out what type of insignia was on the cap at one time from this clue.

Based on these photos, I would have some doubts. Compare it with this one. Very similar photos but for me there's a huge difference, this one shouts "I'm original!!"

I agree, doubts could be entertained.
