Tired out old Waffen-SS Visor hat

Here is a hat I treasure. When my 'motel buyer' partner, Jeff Roth, moved to Texas, this is one of the first, of many, great items he found, from his ads.

It took me over 25 years to finally get it, but I am pleased as I can be to have finally added it to my collection.

Beat up, used, and altered by it's former owner; but one that doesn't need much explaination.

Interior, or rather, lack of interior. The lining and sweatband were removed and a wool sweatband was added.

When I first got this hat, a collector told me that " with patience, it can be properly restored."

I still snicker over that comment.

Wow, very cool. Looks like you can even see wear from his thumb on the interior visor from when he took it on and off.

What the hell would this collector want to restore?

Beautiful, Id take a cap like this over a mint one anyday! It would look well with my nice worn tunic.

Bob, this lining things with wool seems to be rather common during the war. I have a late war Officers belt named to a Standartenoberjunker that is carefully lined with wool. Your hat reminded me of this item immediately. Nice hat, really has the look that makes all love the stuff so much.

I concur with John. I'd much rather have a piece with character like this over a mint example.

                          Beautiful cap!
