Winter Fur Hat Opinions

[RUHL13]

Hi, not really a big fan of fur lined caps, but could not resist. Anyone seen this version before? Not your typical rabbit fur lined cap. Has metal side hooks for securing when folded up, front is sewn in place, along with stitching to metal insignia [wreath only]. Seams to top with button, no size stamps or any other stamps. Maybe privatly made? Like I mentioned, not a fan of fur caps so any help of origin would be great.

Interior, no idea what the stain is. I highly doubt blood.

No this did not come from ebay, picked it up the other day from a guy who searches for items for me. Got this with a lot of small stuff, collar tabs, breast eagles, cap eagles, some medals, and other items.

Hi Steve, have seen this variant in period films of the 6th army surrendering at Stalingrad, officers wearing them. Never say never .

Hi Gary, the way the lining is constructed is very similar to the Soviet M40 "Ushanka" upon which all these caps were based. Possibly locally made in the East? Photos show many many different styles of fur caps being worn.

I agree with you Ade. But how many different variations of these fur caps you think were available? Considering occupied countries, captured uniforms, headgear. Would you guess at least a dozen or more?

Hi Gary, I have never counted them, but I would say at least that. Just looking at newsreels of the POW's taken at Stalingrad will show many different types.
