I can't add anything to the cloth insignia discussion, but I also think that the Skijaeger badge is likely a postwar application. Here's why:

    - When the special insignia (cap and sleeve) of the 1. Skijaeger-Brigade/-Division was approved in spring 1944, the first examples fr the cap were fabricated in the field using basic Jaeger oakleaves insignia in combination with a handcrafted brass ski (cut from shell casings). The ski was riveted onto the oakleaves, not pinned separately as in this example. Moreover, it was of a very basic design, certainly not as detailed as the one on the cap in question. There's a thread out that shows a period example.

The divisional history notes that these first field-made examples were considered badges of honor by the division's personnel.

The actual issue insignia was stamped in one piece with four integral attachment prongs (also in the thread noted).
