There are more than a few that think the Ideal is a post war piece. I am on the fence with that one. I would want a hands on with one before coming to any conclusions.

        Wasn't there an EREL "Triumph"?

I was just about to post a question about the Erel Triumph but actually did a search before asking... Novel idea! Anyhow, does anyone know what the story on these (when made, where they fell in the Erel quality range, etc.)?

          Regards,

          Drew

I believe this was previously posted on the forum. Ideal-1938.

IIRC, Triumph's are only from one specific Erel distributor.

Thanks for posting that; very interesting. I don't think I've ever seen an Erel "Prima" before...

Very interesting! Look at the listing of styles under the EREL-logo. The order of listing is different on the two advertisements. Does this mean something?

It shows an approximate date when Erel changed the names of thier visors.

Yes, but "EXTRA" moved in the listing to the penultimate position from the first. Maybe it is just nothing of meaning and only arbitrariness of the typesetter.

I have owned countless Extra’s and Privat’s and have yet to see a difference in quality. Now the Standard does not have an inferior quality but does miss some options like the Stirnschutz or vent some times.

I agree with the above--supposedly it was the amount of padding, but I always wondered if it wasn't just a little bit of advertising puffery on the part of Herr Lubstein, and you were just paying a little more for a pale-green lining with Privat stamp....

I did hear that a dealer recently found some of the papers of the Erel company, so hopefully this mystery will be solved at long last.

I wanted to bring up this old thread to ask our resident headgear experts to confirm this yet again (I didn't know if we have reached a consensus on the different classes of EREL visor caps):

Prior to October 1938 it was Extra>Prima>Standard>Ideal, with Extra being the highest and Ideal being the lowest quality wise?

After October 1938 it was Privat>Extra>Standard>140 quality wise, while Triumph was a unique distributor label?

                              Did I get it right?

And no apparent/REAL quality differences in terms of materials used and construction between the different classes?
