    Original german army overseas cap?

    Hello,
I'm interested in this cap. What do you think? Could he be original, or is it replica ?

    Thanks!

        re: original army overseas cap

I think it's a real piece with a replaced original eagle. The fact that the body of the cap is made of several pieces of wool sewn together across the body in a patchwork kind of way makes me think it's a French manufactured cap. They were known to salvage old uniform wool and made caps under contract for the Heer. Caps like this go for anywhere from $200 - $300 in my experience, but if people feel the eagle is indeed replaced, expect to find more people valuing it in the lower side of that range. The "patchwork" construction is a negative too, but it's a REAL cap. - Mike

          Hello,
The cap is currently on hold for me. Is the eagle replaced, because he's not machine-stiched?

Does anyone else have another opinion about this cap?

          Thanks,
          Frank

It seems OK..Would like to see the interior vent grommits, markings etc.

Hand sewn eagles are the norm on overseas hats.

              Hello,
I was just looking at the photo's again. It seems like the entire upper left part
( at the first photo) has been replaced.

That would explain the extra sewing in the middle and the colour difference of that part. It makes me believe that the part might have been damaged and replaced post-war. What do you think?

              Thanks,
              Frank

Either replaced (war time or post war) or re-sized from a smaller hat,but I see no interior alterations.

                  Hello
I received better photo's, and the alterations were totally different than I expected. The replaced part is smaller, but it also looks more to me like a damaged part had been replaced, probably post-war.

What's your opinion? Would it be possible to replace a part. Can anyone tell more about the ventilation hole.(original or not)

                  Thanks,
                  Frank
