SS Panzer side cap- opinions

I plan on buying this SS Panzer M40 sidecap soon, and was wondering what the general concesus is on it. I really believe it is genuine, and I am getting it from a good friend of mine. The lining in not marked that I could see, but the stamp could have just worn away.

IMO this cap looks promising, has the right look/cut for a period sidecap, even if it seems to be no sign of insignia, my gut feeling say !

I might be out off my league here but isn't possible that this is a luft em cap that has been dyed black??

Jens, you had a good thought there, but I have had a LW sidecap (my friend I am getting the SS cap from actually has it now) , and they are quite different in feel, as well as material. The weave of the wool is quite different. I got to see this at hand when I was in Estonia, and it smells old, looks old, and feels old. I like it!

I would have thought any Waffen SS caps from Estonia would have been Field Grey.
