Infantry 17th Reg. Traditions Visor - Comment?

Posting this for a friend. I have no dog in this hunt.

No history or information available. One of nine caps picked up at an estate sale two of which were American. I'm told the pins don't go through the lining. I've read (here) that traditions caps are real problematic so any detail you might pass on would be a big help. Numerous photos follow. Hope I don't bore anyone.

Here's the interior front; guess these pins are for the wreath:

Some Denny The Dunce questions that would aid this less than experienced Irish lad would be:
a] What type of material is the cap body made of?
b] What types of base material were these insignia made of?
c] There's been comments on other threads about "placement" of these things between the adler & wreath - great if your originally assigned to the unit but what if your a transfer?
d] What should my sidekick ask for this cap 1} if it's a 17th Reg & 2} if it's just a nice infantry cap that some yo-yo stuck a pin on?

All comments welcome & thanx, Rick C.

If you look closely below the eagle's wings, you can see the original holes where it's prongs would have gone through the fabric. In other words...the eagle has been moved upwards to accomodate the skull, but not quite enough, resulting in a crowded appearance. The original holes are also apparent from the inside.
