      Geez,you have several accounts of these hats being purchased/found by collectors and dealers direct from Veterans and a period photo of the exact hat being worn.


      What more do you need? A trip back in time?


      I still own one and I rather enjoy it.

        Bill Shea, Robert Sivier and others established 30 years ago and long before the internet that these were French made with insignia similar to that of the navy caps. This fact has seemed to get rediscovered every the last couple pf decades. djpool--the best compare and contrast photo analysis anywhere--especially the comparison with the blue navy cap eagle. I will try to post photos of another example. I've had four of these, in black hessian cloth lining (the Sz stamps don't hold up because they were white like typewriter whiteout and came off quickly. They were also in blue/gray ribbed artificial satin, and gray/white muslin. I have seen the sweatbands in brown and the gray. Neal Perry
