    Flak NCO's visor.

I obtained this visor off the e-stand early last year but am now thinking about parting with it. I would welcome any comments together with some idea of what I should ask for it.

The rear of the sweatband was sown with black thread and had come detatched plus the fabric had split slightly in that area so I carefully tacked the edges together and restitched the band.

The cap came in an ancient paper bag and also had this strange metal frame affair with it.

    Many thanks.

Some kind of input on this would of course be appreciated.

    Thanks.

To be honest, I'm not getting a warm fuzzy feeling when I look at this one. I would have expected to see a waffle pattern on the underside of the visor and a plain cotton lining. The sweatband seems a little too big for the cap as well.

I'me with Ben on this one.

Could be OK but the pics aren't doing anything to convince me! Non waffled visors and rayon linings are in themselves not unrare occurances but as a whole this thing looks pretty nasty. Is it me or does the trikot look a little odd? Post war perhaps?

I've seen similar "frames" in caps sold by a well known English Purveyor of Poop so that isn't a particularly good sign either. I hope I'me wrong and It's just a case of digital dyslexia. Sorry not to be of more help.

        Yours, Guy.

You're right, it does look a bit strange in these photos. Very chunky, almost like corduroy.

Thanks for your comments so far. I reduced the size of the pics which are not helping so will post larger versions asap. The sweatband puckering is due to the newspaper behind it. I don't think the tricot is as course as it appears in the pics but as I say larger versions will help.

                  Hello,
The sweatband appears to have been replaced or resewn. The whole lining does not look like it sits properly. The whole package leaves alot of questions. I too would not want to place this in my collection.
                  Thank you,
                  Curtiss

In my opinion.......... the only thing on or in that hat that is pre '45 is the wreath/cockade. I haven't seen alot of variation in Luft NCO hats. Even the private purchase stuff stays pretty close to a standard.
I have never seen nothing like that!
Sorry, but this is what they should look like...............

Ok, I'm no expert on headgear but I hope I'm learning.
Apart from the points mentioned above, the thing that hit me first was the peak looks like plastic, the chinstrap looks plastic and the buttons are silver.
Have any other members noticed this or do I still have alot more learning to do????????

Thanks for the input, like I say I purchased it via the e-stand early last year so will have a rummage through my records to see who I bought it from.

                            Thanks again.

                              Hi all,

I was the former owner of the cap. What can I say about the cap, I purchased it directly from the family while I cleaned the house of a family member of them. Not sure but I think I took it with me for 40 € or so. It has nothing to do with any English militaria seller or anybody else.
I think you cannot compare this cap to an early war example like the one shown. It was my understanding that this cap is a very late war one with some odd features but anyway original.
You should do some good close ups from several features to view it better. The had is at least miss shapen from bad storage so that the sweatband and liner may a little bit odd, but thats something I have seen often on "out of the woodwork" caps.
Is it 100% sure that all of these visors should have a waffeled pattern on the underside of the visor ? I have seen alot of original ones without that feature. The visor itself is not plastic nor is the strap. Yes, the buttons are nickeld and painted black, but they had to use everything later in the war. Iam not sure if the black thread around the sweatband was there before or if it was done by the buyer.
These caps were made of hundres of tailors and what would you expect to see on such a cap in late ´44 or even ´45 ?? Pre war standarts ? I guess not.
Its easy to follow a first impression of somebody and say its all bad, but are you realy sure that all have to look the same ?

                              Bests Jens
