Here's a few pics of my Artillery HPC and some info about the original owner as supplied by his grandson.

"My grandpa's parents was/were(?) poor people, so he could'nt visit high school. So he went to "Reichswehr" in 1927 as a time-soldier for 12 years. he made a high-scool-final, so he was able to became an officer. 12 years ended 1939, but - you know, what happened, so he had to stay in the Wehrmacht. last position was Major, the next promotion was Oberstleutnant, starting 1. june 1945 (what a good luck for him: as a major he had less problems in "PW"-time.
The location of his Reserve-Artillerieregiment (No 31(?)was Rendsburg in Schleswig-Holstein (at Kiel-canal). Name: Konrad Vollmer, died 1986."

As you can see the sweatband is cushioned all the way round by the extra strip of material. It's amazing craftmanship..

          sehr schoen

Very nice piece. The denazified appearance does not surprise me at all. A very typical fate for such regalia in the wake of the war. By the late-1920s, the Reichswehr was a place of prestige and security for a Zeitsoldat (which was the case for all....) and surely Schleswig-Holstein of the late-1920s also was something different from what we associate with economic good times in the 21st century. I believe by high school is meant here university, actually, or Gymnasium. In any case, the Rw of the era also offered excellent technical education and set very high standards, indeed.

I wouldn't discount your theory of HPC putting the Frischluft name in the cap despite the lack of a ventilation system. You can now see two examples of original HPC caps, with not only the ventilation holes, but also the extra padding of material around the forehead of the sweatband (the Stirndruckfrei feature), and the stitching used. It would be interesting to compare these characteristics to your HPC cap - can you post some photos?

Hi Clive, I need to take a pic of the grommets, I have the outside shots. My cap is a little mothed, but has a great shape. I'll post Tuesday.
