I have noticed two differences between our caps.Mine has 2 steel grommets (traces of field gray paint),one each side. And my liner what i thought was all light tan,is actually made from two seperate coloured cloths. The inner sides are light tan but the crown section is the olive colour i described, which was in the czech overseas cap i saw on the collectors guild.
Im not sure if these types are commonly found with this but it may be a clue to its origins. The materials are standard for sure.As is the constuction.

As ive already discussed with adrian in an email my theory is that our caps are wartime czech manufacture from a czech pattern made with german materials for the the german army.
The main difference between my cap and adrians(apart from insignia and the grommets)is my cap has a different coloured olive twill used for the crown section of the liner. The inner sides are light tan. Both materials are exactly the same .I think this could be an indicator that mine is late war,due to the fact that the manufacturer was ensuring that all available cloth was used to ensure supply. As i mentioned before i have seen a czech cap utilizing the olive type.Perhaps they had enough cloth to manufacture the tan section from supplied german stock and then had to rely on the czech cloth to finish it off.

            Justa theory!

Thanks for posting the pics adrian.

            Any input appreciated,

            regards keifer

I may of solved the mystery of the olive crown in the cap.
I read several threads from the "german daggers forum" reference the recycling and use of old tropical cloth and unissued tropical stock which provided a stop gap resource for the military clothing industry.in an effort to prolong the use of raw materials.Tropical cloth was used for finishing the linings of wrappers, pants and hats.
So my theory was almost correct, the crown section of the liner is most probaly made of recycled or unissued german tropical cotton twill not czech cloth.
