Luft Visor... Rare maker>

This bit of info would only be of interest to those that are into visors but here goes.

I've recently started to collect some headgear other than helmets and got Gary Wilkins Collectors Guide to Cloth Third Reich Military Headgear.

I was reading about the different makers of Visor caps and was checking the few I have with those that are documented in the book.

One of the really nice Luft NCO Visors I have, was made by Willy Sprengpfeil Mutzenfabrik. Very clearly marked under a 100% Rhomboid sweatshield and dated 1936.

According to Mr Wilkins on pg 310......... " although the company's ads indicate that it produced a full range of visor caps for the military services, no authentic visor cap example (whether an Extramutze or contract cap) made by Willy Sprengpfeil has yet been encountered."

There have probably been a million of these come out of the wood work since that was written, but if not......... here's a rare one.

I had a very nice tailor made LW officer's cap of early date (ca. 1935/6) with the lowered tailed badge from this firm, although it was retailed through a bespoke tailor in Hamburg. The cap had a patent leather peak. Bruce Herman sold it for me, in fact. The Kokarde was of silver wire versus alu., as well. All in all a very natty cap. I have not seen a Lieferungsmuetze, but then who has seen it all, after all?

My loss is another forum members gain...I had one of these makers as well but sold it about a year ago.
