Officers Visor chincord question... ?

I recently came across this silver chincord that is supposed to be for a pre'45 visor. As you can see in the picture, it is extremely large and heavy compared to what is on one of my caps.
I'm just getting started on learning what I can about visors and am hoping that one of the resident visor experts can help let me know what's up with this thing.
I looks too thick and heavy to be intended for one of these hats.

chin cords

Chin cords came in different thickness'. I have had both types on different visors. Construction is what your looking out for. Cardboard or aluminum in the knot.
