    Fake Metal Headgear Insignia

This site, Murph's Militaria, is selling fake headgear insignia of all types.
Most of it is one-looker bad, but there are some that are well done (and I have seen them being sold on dealer sites as original).:

Isn't that a risk we all take considering the flood of fake memorabilia that has flooded the market?

That is correct, but you can significantly reduce the risk by studying the fakes as well as the originals.

I agree, knowledge is power. But beyond looking for RZM and maker's marks(Which good fakes will have) and perhaps visual signs of poor casting, I wouldn't necessarily be able to tell. Sadly, I have been reading comments from people who have been burned by reproductions. It reminds me of that big news story last year about Nazi regalia being found in South America. The stuff was to be donated to some Shoah museum, only to discover that the items were all fake!

I'm amazed anyone believed that South American junk.....you could spot immediately from the news cast pictures. I suppose people like to believe 'evil nazi stuff' when shown it..

People seem to have a strange fascination with Nazi regalia, I guess the "Magic" power of the swastika is based in reality.
