Covid-19 & the Soft Headgear Market

The Community Forum has numerous threads on the effect of the Corona Pandemic on the Militaria hobby in General.
Most posts seem to reflect a perception that more people/dealers are selling, and prices are concurrently going down.

I can't say that I have seen anything of the sort as far as soft headgear is concerned (particularly my focus, visors). If anything, prices are still high on dealer sites, the e-stand, and at auction. While common items in common condition are plentiful, they always have been so (and at what I consider unrealistic prices).

Curious to hear what others think.

We are just 2 Month into that Mess. The real Effects will only start to show in a couple of Month. Logic that now the Dealers try to keep up there Prices at any Cost. But when you look a bit around you see the Signs...a lot are selling and a lot more will and at one Point the Prices will crack. I had the last 3 weeks more offers from Collectors who usually never sell, with very good Items for a very very good Price then i had the complete last year.... Militaria Bubble will not survive it this time. Market will come back, it will just take time....

I think the retailers believe they are selling their pieces at the most expensive price, but I believe that in a couple of months the prices will drop because many will have to realize given the economic situation

I would partly agree with you, I think we will see lots of uncertainty un til à vaccine is ready which will take at à minimum 18 monts, probably 2-3 years. Once à vaccine is ready and avaiable things probably will start to normalize.

The claim in the other thread is that people are selling their items now at below-market prices (in order to establish liquidity).

With soft headgear, I am not seeing it at all.
As Don noted in the other thread, the Ratisbon's auction was "Covid-19 proof", and prices were going for market value.

I never saw any big drop in pricing for Visors in the wake of the 2008 Recession for that matter, either (there are dealers with the same inventory they had in '08, with the exact same 2007 prices....)

Some selling now for sure, but that do not Effect the Market Prices. Ratisbon did all they could to keep there Clients buying for this Auction, but lets talk again at there next one. What will Effect them and bring a lot more to sell will be the upside down Economy what will be dead as a doornail. You can't also not compare 2008 with what is now going on. Against this now 2008 was a Kids Party. It only take more time to really show, but that will come for sure. Take a look at the smaller Online Auctions like Mil321. I know its a Crap Place, but there you see the early Signs. Usually they have at there Top Auctions 2 to 3 Pages with Items to sell, now...they have 15 I know many People who where before all the Mess financial very good, 2 or 3 Cars ect. Now, within a Week....no more Income, but all Bills for Cars Houses ect are running...and they are Flat as Pancakes now. The "lets take all on Credit" System Backfires. Several Companys who where real Big, Restaurant Chains ect....out of Buisness, 2000 4000 and more People out of Work ect ect. Even the most Hardcore Type of Collector with "My Stuff is super rare and super Expensive Attitude" will at one Point get that the good Times are bye bye for now.

I know this is strictly concerning soft headgear, but I won several items in the ratisbons auction today on my initial bid, and it seemed there was far less competition than usual. If headgear went for “market prices” today isn’t that a little lower than normal for ratisbons? I feel like headgear usually sells for a bit more in their auctions than what you’d get from a dealer

Without getting this thread off track, I thought the quality of the visors in Ratisbons was lacking in this auction--common visors in common condition.

I do agree that the current economic situation does not / has not moved dealers to lower prices...at least not yet. If this pandemic does not force dealers to lower their crazy prices then nothing will and 2008 prices will remain forever. I agree with others that there is a chance that the hardships of those who live paycheck to paycheck and especially in countries whose currency has been severely devalued, will possibly have collectors to sell off some of their collection just to make ends meet. Unfortunately, every man, woman and child has felt the sting of this economic crisis in some form or another. This is not a good time globally and the unforced hardships being brought about is very troubling.

I agreee and think the real result will be seen in the future, also the happenings with Covid-19 reactions and activitay differs around the globe.
So maybe prices can be different effected as systems like with 401k and social systems differs around the globe. And there is nothing to compare with the 2008 crash fall to the current crisis.

Never mind the prices, there are nearly no visors being listed on the e-stand. Seems no one is selling any quality stuff? J
