              I would say it could potentially be a general's Bergmutze since it is the highest quality you can buy and the "Stirndruckfrei" liner is amazing and not surprizing for a general.
              The buttons once gold and "camouflaged" green? Overpainted???
              You would otherwise expect to see "steinnuss" buttons on such an early cap with early brown backed T-insignia, but perhaps not for a general! Pebbled gold!

              (Of course pre 1943 generals did not have golden eagles and early bergmutzen never had crown piping...)

                My Guess is some of the earliest buttons are made of gold metal ...as much as a generals cap would be a great dream..Billbert
