Look at the details on the SS officer buckle I posted now
And I am not sure this is original.
The one you have posted has very bad details.
Easy to spot as a fake.

Clear and well known fake. If you were collecting SS buckles you would not have even posted that fantasy piece.

Thank you very much for the feedback, but....

Can you please specify what is wrong and add a picture of a «good» one? I m searching all serious WW II dealers and I cannot see any difference from what they are selling as «originals» and this one.

Original aluminum SS buckles are actually made of aluminum. Also, original aluminum SS officer's buckles by Overhoff, (as well as most of the fakes), will have 4 distinct markings. This one has about 2 and 1/2. As far as castings go, this is about as bad as you can get, imo.

Three More Buckles For Review...

Uh-oh!

Are these three unfinished buckles of the same genre? To my tired old eyes, these three buckles look very similar (in terms of material and construction) to the one posted for review. I was of the opinion that my three examples were original, but now I am starting to doubt...

The two close-ups show the buckle @ upper-left.

These zinc buckles are from a completely different maker and materials. Nothing in common with the above fake.

Those are not unfinished buckles but broken Emil Jüttner buckles. Worst case they are broken fake Emil Jüttner buckles. But you will know that only if you find the other broken / gone part.

Broken Not Unfinished

When I first obtained these three broken buckles, there was only one loose keeper/catch part - see images below. Is it possible to make a determination of originality (of the three zinc buckles) now? Or do we need weight, dimensions, etc. ?

The one having this part was/is original. For the remaining two you will probably never know.

That is pretty nice that you have the reverse fitting of one. I have had a few of the broken Juttner buckle fronts in the past. I suspect the GI's pulled them off the belts quickly in hope of getting a souvenir and the front just came off as the crimp was not that strong. JP makes a good point in that a faker could make a casting of a real piece but you could tell.

As an added note, the buckles posted by Greg ARE finished, you will see that the crimps on the reverse were pressed over the reverse fitting however the fitting popped out, so to call them unfinished would be wrong. It would be interesting to see what the blob of base zinc metal looked like before crimping.
