Buckle books

I m looking for a a global book about buckles. I have the Peter Nash but it lacks officer one. Do you have any ideas?

Angolia’s revised edition is the best book but it has it’s share of mistakes and bad buckles. If I am looking for information I use the search function on the forum. It is better than any book.

Trouble is that when you start looking for buckles and you are in a "market sale place" (Don t have the right name in English), you need to know if the buckle for sale is good or not. No time unfortunately to ask to this forum...
That s why I looking for a book to have basic knowledge.

Trouble is that when you start looking for buckles and you are in a "market sale place" (Don t have the right name in English), you need to know if the buckle for sale is good or not. No time unfortunately to ask to this forum...
That s why I looking for a book to have basic knowledge.

Then you will continue to buy fakes. As already said by others, there is no book without mistakes or stupidity. Nash is the worst, Angolia's just a bit better. But none will guarantee what you are reading is accurate. Books or not, Forum or not, assistance or not, you will end up buying fakes and fantasy pieces no matter what. Only knowledge after been burnt several times will help you to progress in that collecting field. Nothing is easy.

Finally someone says it: Nash is the worst. I do not understand the persons/collectors that do admire him or the book!

I alway considered the Evans book the worst. Bad fakes with three solder holes, fakes with nuts holding on the insignia, repainted buckles. He wanted to sell his collection so he put goofy prices in the book. Very little useful information.

OK all, clear enough. Thanks for the explanation. To reduce the risk I'll keep on buying buckles through professional sources, so that at the end it's a fake I can return it.

It must be obvious: Nash is the worst. And I fully agree with that!!

I cannot believe some buckle-"experts"/moderator from the War Relics forum still admire (read "letch" for) this book. And so with this they give way the actual degree to their knowledge!

Many years ago I was given the book by a real buckle expert, saying "Wim please do read this sh*t"!

Back to the books: All the buckle books are somewhat dated by now, all are full of mistakes and misattributions, and none is suitable to reliably identify fakes at this time. On the other hand, all contain something that is of interest, some more than others. Problem when starting out is, you won't be able to separate the chaff from the wheat. So yes, your best way forward would be to spend time reading the buckle-related posts in this and other militaria forums. You'll find lots of info on the RZM registration system and how it changed over time!

I have started to read posts. Indeed a lot of information but from time to time difficult to understand if you don t have the basic knowledge. But this will come thanks to all of you!

If basic knowledge is what you need to begin with, get the Angolia's. At least it is one eye among the kingdom of blinds. But it will help you to understand basics.

Forums can be good but, there also, a lot of stupidity can be found with many people with no knowledge at all trying to be labeled as "expert".

Dealers? Yes, your money back guarantee (up to a certain limit). But dealer and honesty usually do not travel together for very long.

In short, assume you are blind and many people will try to exploit this. Never buy anything before been really sure it is safe to do it.
