    Hello all,

I posted a picture of the black S to show the difference in quality. At the time of the DJ buckles quality was a must (just look at all the buckles from the early period, always very nicely made) The Quality of the marked buckle is in my eyes not fitting in. Much too sloppy.

That’s all. As for the blank buckles, they are plenty around and it is easy to "glue" something on but it is very difficult to make a believable fake with all the details and craftsmanship needed to fool an advanced collector. Maybe am too tired to explain myself clear but I think most of the members will understand my point.

    Greetings,

    Marc

The time I think to draw a line under this one, as it is always a bad sign when correspondence on a thread develops into verbal ping pong between two Forum members.

Madly disappointing though that this interesting DJ has not provoked any comment from other Forum members with an interest and expertise in DJ and HJ buckles.

I promise that this is not ego or oneupmanship driven, although a final and subjective, parting comment.

With all due respect, I totally and completely disagree with the earlier statement of "..just look at all the buckles from the early period, always very nicely made..".

I have in the past rattled on and bored for England about the feature of buckles dating from the early 1920's to the early 1930's being in some cases, almost crude, bespoke and home made in quality, with a specific reference to the humble SA. In addition, the same assessment and to a lesser degree, can on occasions be appropriated to the DJ, NSBO and Der Stahlhelm.

      Regards,

      David

Agree on the point that I would have liked other points of view from other members...

I specify here my statement on "quality" of the early DJ buckles, although sometimes the "S" in not "symmetrical" the quality of these buckles is always good and part of the one I posted above, I never seen another "two part" one. On the contrary, it are the DJ buckles that are transformed into HJ ones.

I don’t think there is any problem in this treat regarding any aggressive or whatever opinion, I sometimes don’t do well in English when I cant find a few specific terms and it is frustrating not to be able to specify "exactly " what one wands to say.

I’m not at all convinced this buckle is good, but I would not throw it into the trashcan eider. Its one of these "very questionable" ones in my eyes.

I still would like to know how the "S" is attached to the buckle….?????????

Regards to all, I’m off to do my job…diving in the sun…

Hello gents...sorry for not putting my 2 cents in untill now, havent spent much time on the site as of late due to work...I see both points being made here and want to add a few of my own...the makers mark on the back is reminiscent of your 2 piece HJ I saw in an old thread isnt it Marc? as for the early quality , I have 2 piece DJ buckles that are of equal quality to Davids that I have no doubt in my mind are GOOD . (please see pics) I only have one Black box DJ , and it is a stamped type...... but my 2 piece DJ buckles show the same rune (flat side ) traits as Davids....although mine have a more standard claw end type...(please see pics) ....I know that Weitze just sold a DJ buckle, and I believe it had the same makers mark...I would have bought it but found it just too late...I will see if I can dig up the pics....let me see what I can find and get back to you...Chad

Hello again...I have found the photos from Weitze site, and the buckle is identical...I think that David made a good point when he said that the quality was not allways good on the early buckles...he is right, some of the SA buckles I have owned looked like hanicapped people made them while sleeping .. I also have solid nickel examples of early buckles that had 1 piece crude brass claw and pin bars that were of low quality......David is the buckle magnetic? most al of my DJ buckles are NON magnetic...but I do have a few that are nickel over steel....just wondering...I have to say the buckle looks a little crude , but I wouldnt count it out just on that...please give me your thought to what I have said..thansk..Chad

When referring to “two parts “ buckles, I referred of course to 45 m/m buckles NOT to the small ones who are most of the time in two parts<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o></o>
