army buckle for opinions

Hi I would appreciate some opinions on this buckle.I know it's not in the best of condition.Am i correct in thinking it's a early aluminium example.

looks like a ground dug buckle .

But very poorly received and then mistreated

Yes, as soon as I saw the modification turning the loop into a prong to go through a hole in a belt, plus the removal of the 2 original prongs that allowed sewing leather around their post, I figured it was post-war modified for modern wear. I believe the de-nazification probably occurred at the same time.
