Interesing Reichswehr Buckle & Belt

Hello Fellow Collectors , last time fell into my hands interesting belt and buckle . Is Reichswehr , the buckle is small , got 4 cm wide , in set is also belt . Set is in unused condition .

The buckle is common but you don’t come across them on a belt very often. The catch on the back of yours isn’t what you usually see. I have had 4-5 of these and I think they all looked like this.

Thx for reply klr , yes my is quite diffrent and is made from nickel silver , your's is made from steel ?

I was wondering over the use of these small buckles , I think they were to be worn by trousers ...

Interesing Reichswehr Buckle & Belt

The buckle I posted is steel and is 35 mm. Most of the 40 mm nickel buckles have the prong bar and catch. Yours is the first one I recall seeing with this type attachment. I should have read your description saying 4 cm.

I checked thoroughly , my buckle is 43 mm wide and 60 mm long .

I like your buckle a lot, and it is quite distinct from the "trouser belt" buckles which are, indeed, not uncommon. Your buckle is a private purchase version for walking out dress and this construction is only rarely found on Reichswehr buckles. It is far more often found on Imperial military buckles. I have two RW in this style, but both are for the regulation 4,5 cm wide belt. Apart from the construction method, I like this style so much because the bright smooth (unpebbled) obverse is totally against regulations. Must have been popular back in the day as the Army High Command warned against bright and/or smooth buckles in the Heeres-Verordnungsblatt soon after walking out buckles (dull, pebbled) were authorised in 1927.

Even better that it is almost full size. I have a full size one with a smooth bright finish.

Absolutely! The size makes this buckle even better, being the full monty of privately purchased buckles. Would you show your full size smooth bright buckle? Any smooth bright RW buckle is worth seeing as far as I am concerned.
