    GB 40 Tropical

    Hello members,
I picked up a web belt with tabbed buckle combo and was fortunate to find the buckle is a GB 40. Green colored webbing to the buckle tab, more tan for the belt. Knowing there's always a debate between DAK vs. Late war web items, I'm assuming this buckle was definitely meant for the Tropics in the early stages. As far as the belt, I'm just not sure, though they look like a good match together. Opinions?
    Thanks,
    Dan

              A beauty.
The belt's condition doesn't match the buckle so put together I would say.

I like both of them. The date is very early. Every tropical I have owned is 41 or 42 marked. I really like to web belts with the web tabs and reinforced holes. I believe these might be the early web belts. You will find a lot more web belts with the leather adjustment. strap. Most of the mint belt have the leather adjustment strap.

The early tropical buckles were (generally from what I have collected and examined) mated to the 1st type olive/green webbed belts with webbed tongue - non re-enforced prong holes. Tan webbed belts were introduced in 1941 and the olive green version was discontinued. The all webbed type (as seen above) do pop up in used condition (I have one set that came home from Italy with an NZ veteran) but several years ago a large batch of these belts in unissued condition appeared on the market and they are quite common to find today.
