    Length of a belt

    Hello,

I am out of my league when it comes to field equipment and belts. I have an Officers tunic and the measurement around the waist is 87 cm. I was looking for a belt to fit it. My question is; Is the measurement number on the belt the actual belt length or does it mean that it will fit a 90cm waist?

The next question is; If it is the actual belt length, what size of belt do I need for a tunic that is 87cm at the waist??

    Thanks a lot .

Fred, if my memory serves me well - german marking on belts indicate total lenght of a belt, so for a 87cm waist you need at least 95cm marked belt IMHO..

      Hello Michael,

Thanks much for the quick answer. That appears to a decent length. I expect that a 120cm belt would be too long. How much belt should be sticking out of the buckle? 23 sets of holes?

        Hi Fred,
        For a waist size of 87cm you'll need a belt approx. 105cm.
When worn on a tinuc, the belt should be on the 3-4 set of holes with a fair bit sticking out and tucked into the belt loop. The reason for this is so that when a greatcoat is worn over the tunic there is still enough adjustment left for the belt to do up.

This is all approximate, but if your 120cm belt does up nicely around the 87cm waist, then that's fine if there's a fair bit sticking out as it's better to be a little too big than too small.

          Hello,

Again, thanks for the info and the reasoning behind it. Makes more sense to me. Which is hard to do a lot of times!
