GAU ESSEN Belt Buckle - is it real?

Here is another one. The story about these is, a box of them were recovered after the war. All of them are mint but some now show the effects of time. I don’t recall ever seeing one with much wear. I remember a story of one of these coming in a grouping from an SS officer. I don’t believe there is any proof these are SS related. Whatever the real story, these are quality nickel buckles.
