    Very early SA?

    Possibly a very early SA.

A distinctly interesting, slightly crude and very pronounced profile (if you are going to have one, have a big one) roundel, which displays an unusual eagle design. In fact, a very unusual design!

The brass box is somewhat standard for an early issue buckle, although a very thin pin shroud.

    Regards,

    David

Yes, this is early SA buckle. The buckle is characterized by high position of eagle and it's unusual. I have similar buckle but my buckle with nickel-silver coating and it's wholly-stamped.

Thanks for the comments chaps and Roman, welcome to the Forum.

This is I think a very unusual SA, although perhaps the photographs (taken on the hoof and with artificial light), do not give full justice to the odd and very pronounced roundel here. The latter is perhaps silver wash on copper, although the style of the eagle is the most striking feature.

I will take some fresh and more detailed images when the opportunity arises.

            Regards,

            David

Looks like this buckle has the same (acid )damage as the one in the previous treat… Same source?? Fire can indeed have the same result of discoloring the metal but then the solder would melt...

Same source Marc, although I do not think that this one has been subjected to an acid wash, unlike the SA with sunwheel swastika.

I suppose that it is the price that we sometimes have to pay, for buying over the internet from private individuals and with only digital photographs supporting the buckle.

All fairly academic though, as the SA eagle/roundel design is more important to me than the overall condition of the buckle and as you know, I do clean brass and nickle pieces.

A brilliant and very unusual roundel here, do you not think?

                    Regards,

                    David

Yes, indeed a very nice roundel, lots of relief and details. Wonder about the top soldering point tough…. You should be able to enhance the buckle if you clean in with copper polish, you can do damage it more so it is worth trying…
