    couple of questons on an HJ belt and buckle

    Evening all. I just received my newest bring-back grouping today and included is this belt and buckle. I know from looking on the forum that this buckle is a Cramer.
    questions are these; what is the signifigance of the marking on the belt? the HJ unit? Second is this buckle nickel plated or is it nickel?

    Nice buckle. It is most likely nickel but some companies made nickel plated steel. See if it is magnetic. First belt I have seen with HJ unit marking. Could have been added by the original owner.

      Yep, buckle looks like he was from solid nickle material. IMO belt is Heer dress type.

        Thanks Guys, I really appreciate the information.

        Now that you mention it I thought the belt was a bit "fancy" for HJ. It looks like it was shiny like patent leather. So good chance the inscribed bit is his last name and 4th Kompanie of the 186th regiment?

          A lot of HJ and DJ belts were hand me downs. I have gotten WWI marked belts with HJ buckles.
