    SA Buckle needing review

Hi everyone. I am pretty new to the site and have started a number of threads to review parts of a collection owned by my Father and myself for over 25 years. There have been a few surprises (mostly pleasant!) and I have gotten bit by the bug again. I am more interested in wound badges and lower grade military awards these days.

I would like some feedback about this SA buckle that we have had in the collection for about 20 years. I always thought it genuine until I started taking a closer look at it. Now I am not so sure. I have found ONE similar example on this forum - http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...ght=SA+chicken

Can someone please give me some thoughts on the authenticity of the piece? If it is genuine, what period would it be from? I would really appreciate some feedback. Thank you in advance!

Details seem to be lacking. The eagle also looks bad. From the few examples I have, I'd have to say this is bad. Maybe some others will chime in.

Ah well, my good fortune was going to run out at some point I guess! Thank you for looking Sydney and for your input.

      Anyone else have any thoughts?

Thank you ivanjoaquin! Can you tell me anything else about it (period of production)? Are you familiar with this style of SA buckle?

According to W. Saris the SA buckle seems to be introduced and worn in 1927, also seems that the three svastica types coexisted in the time.
The eagle of your buckle is a know but not often seen design

That is really interesting - thank you again. Does anyone else have a similar version for comparison?

Original buckle with one of the ugliest Eagles on any buckle.

Thank you for your input klr! I am glad this buckle is well known but have to agree - it isn't a looker!

I thought I had one like this. I think it looks more like a dodo bird than an eagle.

This is why I was sceptical about the buckle. After scouring the Internet for similar pieces to do a comparison, I could only find one example that closely resembled mine. I would really like to see other examples.

It is difficult to search for most patterns of SA buckles. I would estimate there is over 200 different types of Eagles and other variations.

I had absolutely no idea there were that many! Okay, not feeling too bad about finding the one similar example now.

Was there a lot of variation then in these early types? I must admit to being surprised by the amount of variation I did come across.

Would the type I have be associated with any particular rank or more a general SA uniform buckle?

A couple of million men served in the SA so that is a lot of buckles. I would just consider your buckle a general SA buckle.
