For sure, variations apart it's a rare buckle.

Dan, would you be so kind to show example you owned ?

Assuming above specimen is by steel, please compare roundel details with below one.

There are probably less than 5 people who have handled more than 1 of these type buckles so I applaud you for being one of them.

My buckle can be found in the following thread

            Thank you, Dan.

I can only repeat what I said in 2008 about your buckle: I like what I saw/see.

I can't say the same on Weitze's specimen.

              This is what I know.
I have encountered only two variations of this scarce buckle.
Both are made of two parts, one been non magnetic heavy alloy(Similar construction en metal type also found on LW, HJ, Police, RLB and other buckles), the second one been in aluminium.
One can observe small differences in details on the inset between the two manufactures.....

By reading Marc description, viewing Dan's specimen and considering my own experience, I assume roundels were manufactured in 3 different material : zink, alu and steel.

Based on resources available during this war, I can certainly agree with your assessment on materials used for construction.

Thanks for all the comments. Ric, as I am in the process of learning, what's wrong with Weitze's example? Was it the wear? Thanks in advance.

                    David,

when I comment "I like what see" or "I don't like what see" I'm offering my personal opinion based on pics alone. Most of time pics are enough to judge originality but sometime they don't and an in hand check is requested to confirm first opinion.

Roundel on Weitze's buckle lack details and appear in bad shape if compared with box. An in hand inspection could tell more and explain the reasons why.

Hope that help to understand my position

                    Ric

P.S. to make it clear : I wouldn't buy it based on pics alone
