Heer belt buckle finish?

What was the original finish for the standard Heer belt buckle:



In standard use was it ever polished or painted? Also, did only the Heer use these buckles or did other branches of the Wehrmacht use them?

the finish for the buckle you posted was green paint...that buckle(aluminum die struck ) is a hard one to find with all of the paint, most look like yours..the paint would wear off of the high points very quickly only leaving the paint in the valleys of the buckle.....chad

It would be the same as the reverse of the buckle. As mentioned it is very hard to find these aluminum buckles with complete paint remaining.

I am not sure if the paint color has changed over the years. Would you call this paint color something close to olive drab?

I have one with most of the original paint still intact and I would definately call the colour olive drab as it is more green than what I would consider field gray.
