They are hard to tell. Maybe Jean Pierre will help. He studied them deeply. There was a thread about that marking in the past.

Personally I don't like this belt; but this field is very difficult.
I let experts give the last word..

I think we must say the last word about this belt.
Are we all doubtfull, skeptical or even sure it's a repro or does someone consider it ok?

As far as I know those are original (at least some made in 1940 are). I cannot certify the 39's are but I cannot certify they are not either. As already pointed out in the above thread, some marked exactly the same were already posted in this forum years ago. In my opinion original.
On the other end, as already stated, I have records of 100% original 40's. So, once again, that one is probably original.

To Schorschi: the stamping order is accurate.

                    Jean Pierre,
I forward you a question from the owner: don't you think this marking is in an unusual position considering other known original ss markings on belts?
                    45° angled...

                    Thanks in advance

This question is just ... non sense. Marking shape, order, position depends on the maker's preference / tools / year of manufacture / else. Were SS buckles marked by the catch suspicious because some others were marked under the post sleeve? One has to look for consistency in the way the leather is marked by one dedicated maker, but consistency only with the same maker. And such consistency could change one year over the other. Consider authenticating leathers is much much more difficult than buckles. So expecting to rely on quick "I know what to look for" will end up with a total failure. Even myself I have to rely on my guts most of the time.
