Red Cross Officer's buckle

I 've had a nice Red Cross Officer's buckle for many years, it is marked Ges. Gesch. with a large ' 1 ". What does the " 1 ' denote, - Deschler & Son ? Or ??

Officers buckle are marked either 1 or 2. I don't know what maker the number relates to but some EM buckles are marked Ges gesch 1. Others are marked for JFS and other by Overhoff and Cie.
