Assmann Hallmarked 2-Piece Zinc WH Buckle

    Hi All -
While comparing and wiping down some zinc alloy buckles in my collection, I came across one of my 2-piece Heer buckles that has the Assmann hallmark on the inner sidewall. I've handled this buckle many times over many years and this is the first time the hallmark jumped out at me. Because it has the curved prongs, I always thought it could be an Assmann buckle, but the hallmark is icing on the cake!

I apologize for my crummy camera and even crummier photos (hope to remedy this very soon), but I hope you can make out the logo? It is the stylized Assmann "A" within a circle with a dot on each side of the circle. I've never seen this particular Assmann logo before that I recall, so I was hoping someone on the Forum could tell me if they also have a buckle with it or knowledge as to when Assmann used it? The prongs, rollbar and pin are magnetic steel with the box and frontplate being silver washed or painted zinc alloy. My guess would be mid-war construction?

    Regards,
    Gary

Sorry guys, but my photos of the logo just don't cut it. This is pretty much what the Assmann hallmark looks like. Any ideas as to when it was used?

          Thanks in advance,

          Gary

Has anyone seen this Assmann hallmark before or have any guesses on period of use for it?

I think that we all recognise the stylised A, although it is the embracing circle and the two supporting dots that is the puzzler.

Any possibility towards whacking a few more images to the Forum - non compressed and as large as your camera allows.

              Regards,

              David

                Hi David,

Sorry, but until we can udgrade our Windows 98 software or buy a new PC to support my new camera, I have to rely on my 10 year old HP camera to do the job and that's the best photos this junk will do on closeups. That said...

My hand drawing is pretty close to what the hallmark actually looks like. Take the closeup of your stylized Assmann "A" and put a tight circle around it, then put a dot on each side and that's what's here. It's stamped, not cast into the buckle. It's the first time I've encountered the Assmann logo in this pattern and I was hoping someone else had seen it on some type of Assmann buckle or other item? It has slipped by for years, but when I did see it, it jumped right out at me. A thick coating of paint would probably cover it up entirely, but maybe now that we know this hallmark exists on Assmann zinc buckles and hidden on the sidewall to boot, maybe someone else will get lucky and encounter it?

I'll try and find someone close by that can get a detailed closeup photo for posting, but until then, please everyone, look at your curved prong Assmann's and see if you can find this hallmark, especially on a dated buckle.

                Gary
