    German Heer Officers belt

I was wondering if you could help me, what is the difference between a black and brown Heer officers belt?

Does the colour indicate early or late war?

    Yes:
    - regulation of 1934 indicate that officers belts should be 55 mm wide, brown
    - regulations of 1938 reduced to 50 mm, always brown
    - a first regulation of 1943 reduced once more the width to 45 mm, and a second one indicated the blackening of officers belts.

Obviously thiese are regulations: you can find little differences in width, and also you can see brown leather belts used also by officers later in the war. Exceptions are always present.

    Hope this helps
