                Here is the other one from the same old collection. It is painted steel and looks similar to the first one shown. No markings. Good, I hope!

                        Most steel SS if not all were painted. The reason so many have no paint is that it is worn out. Buckle that started that thread has no paint on the front, but some left in the back.

                          Yes I see what you mean Jack. Perhaps the paint was polished off to make it shine, as there is little if any wear to the metal itself.

                            Usually they had two coats: dark grey primer and silver top finish. You can see that on the back of your buckle. Is it a photo or it seems there are some tiny remnants in the recesses on the front.
