CRANK-CATCH DAF BUCKLE by ASSMANN from VET ESTATE LOT...

Another nice surprise in my latest vet estate lot was this nifty little "crank" catch DAF buckle by Assmann. It shows only very light wear, and from what I understand, was only in production for a short time (or correct me please if I'm wrong...). Nice, crisply marked w/ The Assmann logo along with RZM M4/39. A couple quick shots below....

Nice buckle, I pickup one just like it a few years ago. What is the gold on the prong bar? Any other signs the buckle might have been gold?

Thanks for commenting. I think what you’re seeing as “gold” is just some old schmutz that built up on the roller bar over time, probably back from when it was on a leather belt. I don’t see any indiction of it having been plated.

How rare are these and what are they worth?

These crank catch DAF buckles by Assmann aren't rare at all against to the crimped catch variant marked D.R.P.a.

You can find the prongs and roller bar construction made from aluminium as well as made from steel and nickle silver. The latter provides the yellowish colour on the shown piece.
