I have had this HAMBURG marked HJ Buckle for a pretty long time. Nickel-silver and very early I presume. Anyone ever seen one marked like this?

Hi David - No worries. Let the chips fall. The roundel is soldered at the 2,4,8 & 10 o'clock position. It could be a alloy as you state. It came in a (long since busted up) HJ buckle, document, photo, badge grouping I bought. Only have it and two HJ Leistung badges (separated by 10 serial numbers) remaining.
Is there a red flag other than it is not a known maker?Alitur vitium vivitque tegendo

I really hate this scenario on the Forum, when some bl**dy oik in England, passes judgement on a buckle.
To be quite honest, I think that this HJ is a somewhat unusual and quite distinct FAKE.
I have seen similar by construction buckles, although never a HJ roundel brazed or soldered onto a composite alloy box and also, why the declaration of HAMBURG !
Regards,
David

No worries, I have nothing invested in this item. I found the Hamburg odd myself. Never got around to researching the buckle until now. Unusual it would have been stuck in with an otherwise good group. That is a good way to get rid of a spurious piece.
What's wrong with England, my mother's family got kicked out there in 30's? They knew we were trouble.Alitur vitium vivitque tegendo
