Garth - and jolly nice too!

May the Forum be provided with reverse images of the Polizei and SA/NSKK buckles?

            Regards,

            David

              Hello,
The first buckle, the dark bleu WH is not necessarily as Kriegsmarine buckle. At the end of the war, starting as early as 1943 for some, WH buckles where painted in dark bleu. (As also the late productions of "bleu" ss rodo's)The story of them being KM or coastal artillery is a dealers invention. They could of course have been used by the KM but they where not produced specifically for it. Don’t forget there are gold plated buckles (in steel) made in 1943 and later (JFS ).

                Marc,
The reason I listed this as a KM is reading the Angolia KM reference, he states the usually had a smooth finish, steel always having smooth finish and illustrates a blue/black painted steel buckle as enlisted KM. I couldn't find a reference to a blue/black finish in his army books.

                  David,
Here are the reverse of the two buckles you asked for.

                    Hi Garth,

I did not criticize you, Angolia as well as other authors are wrong about this buckle. Unfortunately, most books just take the errors over from the others. Intensive buckles collecting and especially the "in depth" research on them is quite new. Lots of new evidence is found over the past five years or so. There exist green KM buckles, they have the same green / olive colour as the WH buckles but the leather tab is stamped with the KM eagle. This is the only difference with the regular WH buckles. This topic has been discussed many times in the past already.

                    Merry Christmas to all,

                    Marc

I have a salty KM buckle that is WH green, but the 1940 tab is clearly KM eagle marked. I agree there is a lot of myths on the KM buckles. Still can't figure out why there are so many mint gold ones.

One of my dad's souvenirs from the war in my collection is a steel N&H "battleship gray" Heer buckle. Not blue-gray, not WH green , but battleship gray, so I think we all have a long way to go to figure out all the shades of paint used on the various buckles, whether WH or KM. Years ago, I was told the paratroopers used the blue-gray buckles, so there you go?

                        Merry Christmas All,

                        Regards,
                        Gary

I’m not a uniform expert but I don’t see whey the Paratroopers of the WH should have a different colour buckle. All there equipments was green / olive. Look at the colour of the WH paratrooper helmets, the buckle, for so for I know was the regular green aluminium WH one and later the green steel one. Colour of buckles are slightly different for each manufacture that produced them, such is the colour of German tunics. LW paratroopers of course had the silver LW aluminium buckle and later the steel LW buckle in bleu or green. But again I’m not an expert in uniforms.

The story here in Belgium and north of France tells that Paratroopers of the LW had the crank catch LW buckles in aluminium, why? Because lots the dug buckles found together with remains of paratroopers where they fought during the battle of the Bulge are crank catch buckles… Personally I think this is just a coincidence, the delivery of buckles to these units was a crack catch, would the order for the buckles have been done a few months later, the factory probably would have send other buckles.

                          Marc

Mint gold ones??? Manny of them?? I haven’t seen a mint gold one in 10 years. Aluminium mint gold KM buckles are very hard to find. Your very lucky if you know a lot of them.<O></O>

Sorry Marc, I was being sarcastic. I have seen ones up for sale on dealer sites before that made me wonder.
